Selçuk Yaşar Sports and Education Foundation, which has been continuing its contributions to education, culture and sports since its establishment, has undertaken social duties such as providing educational scholarships, organizing cultural and artistic competitions, and supporting sports clubs. In this direction, Selçuk Yaşar Sports and Education Foundation started to work to establish Yaşar University in 1999 with the aim of being a pioneer and an example in higher education in İzmir. These studies resulted in the establishment of Yaşar University with the law numbered 4633, which was accepted by the Turkish Grand National Assembly on 29.03.2001. Yaşar University is an institution with public legal personality, established under the provisions of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 on Foundation Higher Education Institutions.
Yaşar University, which started education on the Alsancak Campus in the 2002-2003 academic year, opened the Bornova DYO Campus in addition to this campus in the 2004-2005 academic year. Selçuk Yaşar Campus, which was put into service in Bornova in the 2008-2009 academic year, is a modern, high-tech academic space that can meet all kinds of needs of students and instructors, and where international standards determined in terms of natural environment and physical space per student are applied. Yaşar University English Preparatory Class, associate, undergraduate, graduate and doctorate education continues at Selçuk Yaşar Campus in Bornova district.
Selçuk Yaşar Campus is the first university campus to implement the principles and practices to limit the consumption of tobacco products in indoor and outdoor areas, as well as international standards, and the principle of “Smoke-Free Air Space”, including open spaces as a requirement of civilization.
Yaşar University continues its educational activities with ten faculties, four colleges and Graduate Education Institute. The language of instruction is 30% English in the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Arts and Design, Management Information Systems and Tourism Guidance Departments in the School of Applied Sciences in English, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department in Turkish, Vocational School of Justice and Vocational School in Turkish, other departments and programs in English. The ordinary education period, excluding the preparatory class, is four years in the faculties and the School of Applied Sciences for undergraduate programs, and two years in the Vocational School of Justice and Vocational School for associate degree programs.
